In this clip we’re looking at the concrete subfloor and the finished floor block – a detail a lot of self-builders aren’t aware of.![]()

That raised block (about 220 mm including the cement layer) is there to allow for:![]()
✅ Your services below the finished floor![]()
✅ Your insulation (typically 150 mm)![]()
✅ Your underfloor heating within a 70 mm screed![]()
✅ Your final floor finish on top![]()

The top of that block is your finished floor level – and you’ll see the external wall is built off this, so everything lines up perfectly.![]()
